Pandas ... Chengdu City, Sichuan, China

Visit to Chengdu Panda Research and Breeding Centre.

Pictures taken at the Chinese Research Centre for Panda in Chengdu City, Sichuan province.  Pandas are found in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces, China.  Based on estimates, there are about 1,600 giant pandas staying in the wild and about 300 pandas living in zoos and breeding centers, mostly in China. These  Zoo pandas  may live till about 35 years old. Some of us may feel that the panda is meek or tame, however, there are reports of panda attacking humans. The pandas  lived in the bamboo forest and Its diet is mainly bamboo. A giant panda eats an average of 9 to 14 kg of bamboo shoots a day.  

Some historical information.  The Chinese government gave a pair of pandas to the United States, following the visit of US President Richard Nixon to China in 1972. The pair were Ling Ling (1969-92) and Hsing-Hsing (1970-99).

Juizhaigou National Park, China

The park is located in the north western part of the Sichuan province, China. It was designated by the UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1992 and a World Biosphere Reserve in 1997. We spent 6 hours at the park, strolling and with occasional rides in the bus.  Private vehicles are not allowed to enter the park. Buses are available  within the park to ferry you to designated points.
               
A wonderful scenes for excellent picture shots. These pictures were taken in May, cool and breezy. Many beautiful lakes.  

These  lakes are located about 2585 meters above sea level, 570 meters  long, with an average depth of 14.1  In some parts of the lake. You can see shoal of beautiful carp (fish) gathering and playing.

More information on the geography and climate on Juizhaigou.  “ Known in English as Jiuzhai Valley it lies at the southern end of the Minshan mountain range, 330 km (205 mi) north of the provincial capital of Chengdu. It is part of the Jiuzhaigou County (formerly Nanping County) in the Aba Tibetan Qiang Autonomous Prefecture of northwestern Sichuan province, near the Gansu border. The valley covers 720 km2 (278 sq mi), with buffer zones covering an additional 600 km2 (232 sq mi). Its elevation, depending on the area considered, ranges from 1,998 to 2,140 m (at the mouth of Shuzheng Gully) to 4,558 - 4,764 m (on Mount Ganzigonggai at the top of Zechawa Gully). The climate is cool temperate with a mean annual temperature of 7.2 °C, with means of -1 °C in January and 17 °C in July. Total annual rainfall is 661 mm, 80% of which occurs between May and October.”
