Pandas ... Chengdu City, Sichuan, China

Visit to Chengdu Panda Research and Breeding Centre.

Pictures taken at the Chinese Research Centre for Panda in Chengdu City, Sichuan province.  Pandas are found in Sichuan, Shaanxi, and Gansu provinces, China.  Based on estimates, there are about 1,600 giant pandas staying in the wild and about 300 pandas living in zoos and breeding centers, mostly in China. These  Zoo pandas  may live till about 35 years old. Some of us may feel that the panda is meek or tame, however, there are reports of panda attacking humans. The pandas  lived in the bamboo forest and Its diet is mainly bamboo. A giant panda eats an average of 9 to 14 kg of bamboo shoots a day.

Some historical information.  The Chinese government gave a pair of pandas to the United States, following the visit of US President Richard Nixon to China in 1972. The pair were Ling Ling (1969-92) and Hsing-Hsing (1970-99).

We enjoy our visit  at the research facility, hope you enjoy this visit here.
