Baguio City - in summer of 2013

Baguio City, a city with lots of pine trees, is located in the "Grand Cordillera in Northern Luzon, one of the few locations in the Philippines with cool climate, foggy hills and panoramic mountain views and lovely flowers."

Visited Baguio City on two previous occasions, first in the mid 1980s and then a second visit in 1990s. Most recent trip to Baguio City in April 2013. These images were taken during this visit.

Baguio City is known for its cool weather - a popular destination during the hot weather. Many residents from Metro Manila would travel to this summer capital during the summer months.

In 1900s, the city was originally planned to accommodate about 30, 000 people by the then American Governor Luke E. Wright mainly as " ... a health resort where the American soldiers and civilian employees could find respite from the sweltering lowland heat." As of May 2010, the city has a population of 318,816 residents, or about 19.7% of the country's population.

According to the Baguio City government website, the City is popular as a "highland retreat in the Grand Cordillera in Northern Luzon, with pine trees, crisp cold breezes and low verdant knolls and hillocks."

Beside travelling by air and private vehicles, many  visitors reached Baguio City through public buses through various terminal in Metro Manila. And while in the city, taxis and public jeepney are easily available. Travel time by bus from Metro Manila is less than 6 hours. A very comfortable ride indeed.
